Collecting? 35 years! As a dealer? Two. It started with sterling napkin rings, sterling antique glasses cases, card cases, ironstone, brass, art, antique French furniture, French Phillipe mirrors, art, bookplates, architectural etchings, very contemporary abstract art, Steuben, brass, silver flatware, vintage MCM art... Too many favorites to list!
I love mixing old with new, mixing a nice antique with fun art, and lots of whimsical items to fill book shelves and coffee tables. I was lucky enough to grow up in a beautiful home stuffed with antiques, but it was never stuffy. My mother always advised me buy the best you can when you can..you will have them forever! Mix styles, periods, and buy a good sofa!
A home stuffed with Big Box store items is sad. Nothing wrong with a couple Billy bookcases, but put some great looking books and funky items on them. Add plants! Start buying keeper pieces as soon as you are able. I have pieces in my home that still thrill me that I’ve acquired many years ago. Mix it up! A fancy antique can look great with contemporary art and a sleek sofa or chair. Fill your walls! There are so many creative dealers here..check often... Always new ideas for inspiration for styling or to build collections.
